Beijing Amusement Park, a national AAA scenic spot, lying next to Longtan Lake, in Zuo'anmen Inner Street, Chongwen District, Beijing, is 4 kilometers from the center of the city. This modernized garden-style amusement park is a Sino-Japan joint venture. Started operating in April 1984, it is one of the large jointly funded amusement parks in Beijing, and one of the first joint ventures in Chongwen District.
The park covers an area of 400,000 square meters, of which 115,000 square meters are covered by water. The isle in the center and four smaller ones in the lake are connected to the bank by 11 stone or wooden bridges. Over twenty large amusement facilities bought from abroad blend well with buildings and facilities of varied, original designs in the garden. The park offers over 40 amusement programs on different scales. Distinctive programs are: a 62-meter-high Sightseeing Wheel, “Swift Currents”, Big Spiral Gliding Car, Air Rock, Terrifying Waves、Carrousel, Pirate Ship, Century Star Gliding Car, and Kart. These make for superb fun and great thrills!
The park offers new interactive popular science programs such as Magical Castle, Illusion Aquarium, Dynamic Cinema and programs centering on environmental protection. After having their thrills, tourists may go to the Illusion Aquarium to explore the wonders of deep sea creatures. Magical Castle employs modernized audio devices and backdrop. The 24-meter-high Air Rock offers exciting experiences of stunt flight.
In 2005 the park acquired “Terrifying Waves” (a large-scale water play program), Storm Fighter (known as the King of Amusement Machines), and a 4-D 360-degree-screen cinema. During the “golden week” of Labor Day (May 1) or National Day (Oct. 1) holidays each year, the park holds a Disney-style costume carnival and an international cartoon carnival, at which tourists may see processions of splendidly decorated floats and 200 actors in costumes, and communicate face-to-face with over 50 cartoon stars. During the summer vacation, the Children’s Day holidays, and spring/autumn outing seasons, the park offers modern dances, interactive games, Fairytale World and cartoon plays, and improvised entertainments.
