Grand Water-eroded Cave of East Beijing is located in Huangsongyu to the northeast of Pinggu District of Beijing. It is a cave-type natural scenic spot composed of dolostone, calcite dolomite and rock concretion containing silicon and iron, etc. It was opened to the public in April 1998.
The Grand Water-eroded Cave was formed in the Gaoyu Zhuang formation rock layer in the Mesoproterozoic, which is 1.5 billion years old. As the first large-scale water-eroded cave group found in the dolostone layer, it enjoys the reputation of “Number One Ancient Cave”. It is 2500 meters long. There are all kinds of stone deposits in the shapes of bamboo shoot, pillar, curtain, flower, tower, pearl, human beings and animals, etc. Under the colorful lights, the stalactites in various shapes, such as hanging ice slush, towering pillars, and curtains, are beautiful and charming. The caves were formed in the Mesoproterozoic about 1.5 billion years ago, and have gone through several enormous earth movements, so the stalactites are in various shapes.
Touring in the caves, one feels like in the dragon palace or fairy land. There are also 20 kinds of stimulating amusement facilities such as ropeway in upper air, roller coaster, kart, pedal vehicles on ropes, bumper boats, hippodrome, bungee balls, etc. There are also recreation places for tourists to enjoy rural life, such as garden for picking fruits, park for fishing, etc. Tourists can also board helicopters to overlook the beautiful sceneries. The scenic spot is divided into eight districts, including dragons on the walls, deity animals welcoming guests, immortals gather for a party, cracking of heaven and earth, etc. The main sights include dragons on the walls, deity animals welcoming guests, Penglai fairy land, sprinkling jades in the vast sky, rains in spring in the south of the Yangtze River, Zhenghe visiting the west, Apsaras fresco, cracking of heaven and earth, water curtain cave, etc.
Penglai Fairy land is a grandiose group of stalactites. All kinds of huge stalactites in different shapes look like Buddha getting together for a party, thus the name “Penglai Fairy land”.
Sprinkling jades in the vast sky is a marvellous spectacle. Large patches of stones are hanging on the top of the cave, like rains falling from the sky, and jades sprinkled to the world.
Rains in spring in the south of the Yangtze River. Needle-shape stalactites closely knitted on the rock walls look like rains in spring, while the stones below look like bamboo shoots growing in spring. What a sight in spring! |
