Located in Mage Street at the southwest end of the Macao Peninsula, it was constructed in 1488, the 1st year of Hongzhi's reign of the Ming Dynasty and formerly named Tianfei Palace. Mazu is regarded as patron saint of voyagers, fishers and businessmen. With flowers, trees, and rocks in it, Mage Temple is made up of the Main Hall, Stone Hall, Hongren Hall, Kwan-yin Pavilion and other buildings. The rocks beside the maze are carved with the inscriptions of some celebrities, important politicians, literators or poets in past dynasties. Mage Temple is one of the three Buddhist temples in Macao with the other two being Puji Buddhist Temple and Lotus Peak Temple. |
