Lacquer linear sculpture is a Characteristic folk craftwork with a long history. Since painted sculpture prevailed in the Tang Dynasty, the lacquer was used to decorate the figure of Buddha. Special lacquer technique was used to create splendid figure and animal images. The Chinese also used lacquer to coat bowls, trays, oven and other porcelain and glassware. Now the Xiamen Handicraft Company combine lacquer technique with porcelain and produced some works which won high appraise when exhibited in Japan. The small lacquer handicrafts, packed with little boxes made of silk bands, small and portable, can be served as travel souvenirs and presents for friends and relatives. |
