The Gao Jianfu Memorial Hall was established in commemoration of Gao Jianfu (1879-1951), co-founder of the Lingnan school of painting. It's an important facility for research on Gao Jianfu and the artistic development of the Lingnan school of painting. The memorial hall originally sat on the premises of the former Chunshui Painting Academy, where Gao lectured and fostered a significant number of artistic talents during the 1920s, which helped stimulated the development of the Lingnan school of painting art.
In 1989, Gao's family donated the premises of the Chunshui Painting Academy to the Guangzhou Municipal People's Government. The Government subsequently demolished buildings on the premises and built the Gao Jianfu Memorial Hall. The hall displays historical materials relating to Gao's artistic career and some of his works and poem and prose manuscripts, introduces Gao's artistic evolution and accomplishments, and illustrates his participation in the Revolution of 1911 spearheaded by Dr. Sun Yet-sen.
The Gao Jianfu Memorial Hall is affiliated with the Guangzhou Museum of Art.
