Situated on the Shore of Shizi Lake that is at the entrance of the Pearl River, Mountain Lianhua are composed of 48 red rocky hills. This famous tourist resort in Guangzhou covers an area of 2.54 square kilometers, with the highest altitude of 108 meters above the sea level. More than 2,000 years ago, Mountain Lianhua was an ancient stone pit, which has been kept until the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Years of quarrying has not only made the mountains to be more majestic and straight, but also created many unique landscapes blended with the “man-made” and the “natural”, including Lianhua Rock, Yanzi Cliff, Baxian Rock, Shizi Rock, Guanyin Rock, Feiying Rock, Nantianmen Archway, and Shenxian Bridge etc. The historic sites on the mountains are the Lianhua Tower built in 1612 (the fortieth year of Wanli in Ming Dynasty), the Lianhua City built in 1664 (the third year of Kangxi in Qing Dynasty), a 40.88-meter-height Golden Guanyin Statue completed in Oct. 1994, and a large imitation of an ancient pavilion fro Guanyin which holds one thousand Guanyin statues of various sizes and receives over 1.6 million people each year. Ascending the peak, you can command a panoramic view of the distance: all around is a vast expanse of fields stretching to meet the distant metropolis, and the mighty Pearl River far away is flowing to blend with the blue sky. In 1996, it was elected to be one of the Guangzhou's ten scenic spots of Guangzhou, named “Wonderful Views at Mountain Lianhua”. In July 2002, it was again evaluated as one of the Host and scenic spots of Guangzhou in the New Century, named “Watching Sea at Mountain Lianhua”. |
