Mountain Yuyin Villa

Of all the counties in Guangdong Province, Panyu has the longest history. The over 2000-year-old Panyu has too many sites of historical interest to count, while the old traditional houses in Panyu have been preserved so well that they have formed a unique scene depicting the Lingnan style of architectural art.

The Mountain Yuyin Villa is a good example of the very best to Panyu's old houses. It's located in Nancun, not far from Shiqiao. Dating back to the reign of Emperor Tongzhi (1862-1874) of the Qing Dynasty, the villa covers an area of more than 2,000 square metres. It is complete with pavilions, terraces, towers, waterside buildings, corridors, arched bridges, flower-beds and lotus ponds that are separated by bamboo plants, trees and flowers. In addition, all the buildings are decorated with sophisticated carvings of exceptional workmanship. The meticulous overall design and use of space makes the villa the best of the four famous ancient gardens in the province.

Throughout history, Shawan has had a reputation for being a town of culture. Indeed, if you go to Shawan, you can't miss the beauty of the delicate old houses. Here you need to walk the streets and gardens to get a feel of the rich workmanship.
