The Museum of Generalissimo Sun Yat-sen's Mansion is based on the site of the former Generalissimo Mansion, a national-level protected cultural heritage site. The former Generalissimo Mansion stands at 18 Dongsha Street, Fangzhi Road, Haizhu District, Guangzhou, on the bank of the Pearl River. Between 1917 and 1925, Sun Yet-sun twice built the Generalissimo Mansion, where he spearheaded China's democratic revolution. He made many crucial decisions in the mansion, such as the decisions to initiate the Constitutional Protection Movement, quench the Armed Rebellion of Guangzhou Merchants Group, fight for the recovery of Guangyu, and restructure Kuomintang; it was also here that Sun Yet-sun envisioned the first cooperation between the Communist Party and Kuomintang. All these had far-reaching implications for China's democratic revolution.
