Litchi

The litchi is one of the Guangzhou's four well-known fruits and there are many different categories. Annual production number of litchi can reach to hundred million catties. The appearance of the litchi fruit is unique, the color of bright red is good-looking, the fruit pulp tastes like congealed lard, the fragrance is rich sweet and the flavor is distinctive. Whenever first month of summer, the litchi forest is continuous obviously everywhere in Guangzhou suburb, which are covered with many strings of rosy cloud litchi.

As early as the beginning of Han Dynasty of China, The litchi had already be listed as the high quality goods to the majesty palace, many well-known chapters for it in previous dynasties were also written, for example, there is a famous poetry that comes from Song Dynasty poet Su Dongpo as following, “Do not dismiss to be the Lingnan people forever if can feed 300 litchis every day.” Until now it still enjoyed great popularity.

The litchis can be differentiated according to the color, smell and tastes, there is one called “the glutinous rice fried ricecake” which owns thick meat and small nucleus, “cassiabarktree taste” which has sweet tasty, “Chinese scholar tree” which contains sweet and micro acid, and so on. According to the picking time, there is also “the glow of fire that could be seen for three months precociously”, the Late-maturing “black leaf” and so on.

Among all the rare valuable kinds, the most precious has to be calculated as “the tsengcheng litchi”. Its appearance is different from the common litchis, the red shell shows mini green, each fruit is surrounded a green line, and the fruit pulp is pure white and crystal clear. What's more, after its fruit is exhausted and placed on the soft-sized paper, the juice overflow paper is not wet, the flavor is especially neat, and every tooth remains fragrant for a long time. There has folklore about “the tsengcheng litchi”. The fruit color and taste all well maintained mother tree's characteristic, but the price has the huge difference actually, In 2001, one litchi on mother tree is so expensive that sells to 55000 Yuan, and in 2002, it rises dramatically to more than 500,000 Yuan!

Besides “tsengcheng litchi”, there is the famous litchi called “the pen village glutinous rice fried ricecake”, “the cassiabarktree taste” of the Luo hillock, “the Shangshu bosom” of Xin Tang as well.
