The Pavilion Housing Liangkuan Poem Tablet (The Pavilion Housing Sino-Japanese Poem Tablet) was built near the Clear Sound Pavilion in Aug. 1990. A story is told about a Japanese monk, Liang Kuan, who found driftwood with the Chinese characters Xiaqiao of Mountain Emei on its nearby Gongchuan, a beach in Japan. The monk was eager to visit the famous mountain, a Holy Land of Buddhism, for a long time. He was so interested in Xiaqiao of Mountain Emei that he made a lovely poem about the driftwood, which made the long journey.
“A piece of driftwood that makes a long journey to Gongchuan.
I can easily identify the characters on it, since the handwriting is clear and nice!
What, what is Mountain Emei like?
I am so eager to visit it.”
This poem was unexpectedly popular in Japan. Through the generous support of the Sino-Japanese friendship association of Chinese Poetry and Emei municipal government, the pavilion housing Liangkuan Poem Tablet was finally built. |
