Having the bride on the back is a wedding custom of the nationality. One day before the wedding ceremony, the bridegroom's side may dispatch the clansmen of the bridegroom to act as the party to escort the bride to the bridegroom's house, and the party is bound to exercise its task. But the bride's side has prepared bramble strips, cool water and pan soot, invites many relative and neighbor women to meet together and is ready for a “battle”. When the escort party enters the house of the bride, these women may throw cold water on the party, plasters them with pan soot and whips them with fine bramble strips. At this moment, a part is chasing, while the other is escaping. Cheerful talk can hear here and where and everybody is in high spirits. After first crow of roosters, it is the time for the ceremony that the bride changes skirt. The divided two braids are combined to one and the bride is carried to the outside of the house, which means she has been married. After the daybreak, the youths of the escort party swarm to the bride to “grab the bride”. After the bride resists symbolically, the clansmen of the bridegroom may carry her on the back and return to the bridegroom's house. |
