The Cliff tombs are imitation tombs of the popular dwelling houses of people who lived in ancient China. They were a kind of grave that was built by cutting a tomb chamber into the cliff. Early in the Tang Dynasty and the Song Dynasty, there were specious records on cliff tombs. When Lu You, a poet in the South Song Dynasty, was supervising and treating Leshan Mountain, he identified the “Cliff Tombs” as “the place where the Taoist priests hid their elixirs in ancient times”. So, the Cliff Tombs of Mountain Leshan were coated in a quiet, mystical, and magic color. |
