Looking up after crossing the Zaijiu pavilion, you see the gate to Lingyun Buddha Temple, which is towering and grand with flying eaves, red walls and jade-green tiles. The couplet on two sides of the gate reads, “To the east the great river runs. From the west the Buddhist doctrine comes”. The couplet is concise and comprehensive, which not only lets people feel the solemn power of Buddha but also indicates the geographic situation of Lingyun Temple. Moreover, the two Chinese characters “Giant Buddha” are contained in it. The couplet shows the uncommon vigor of this one-thousand-year-old temple. |
