Zhenguo Temple lies in Haodong village, twelve kilometers northeast of Pingyao. It was originally named Jingcheng Temple, and then in 1540 renamed Zhenguo Temple, so it has a long history.
Zhenguo Temple is famous for its buildings built in the Five Dynasties Period, especially the Hall of Buddhas. Along the central axis are the Hall of the Heavenly King, the Hall of 10,000 Buddhas and the Hall of Three Buddhas.
In January 13, 1988, Zhenguo Temple was declared a key cultural relic under national protection. In December 3, 1997, Zhenguo Temple and Shuanglin Temple became part of the World Heritage Site of Pingyao Ancient City.
