Wu Gorge is one of “Three Gorges of the Yangtze River”, the other two are Qutang Gorge and Xiling Gorge.
It originates at the Da'ning River east of Wushan County in the west and reaches to Guandukou, Badong County, Hubei Provice in the east. With a length of 45 kilometers, it is well-known for its serenity and elegance among the sights along the Yangtze River.
There are perilous peaks and queer gullies and zigzagging river waters along the gorge. Particularly, the famous “Twelve Apices of Wu Mountain” top the south and north banks of the river, among which is the most graceful “Goddess Apex”. The lines of the Tang Dynasty, “Deep in my heart, no other water can be compared to that in the Cang Sea;and cloud elsewhere can not be a patch on that in Wu Mountains”, can best illustrate the charm of Wu Mountain. The cloud and mist shroud the mountaintops in the gorge, where it drizzles all the year around, which can easily bring about a wonderful spectacle of Cloudy Rain of Mountain Wu. |
