Hefei Wildlife Field is located at the southwest foot of the beautiful Mountain Dashu in the west suburbs of Hefei, is 15 kilometers away from the city center. It covers an area of 1,530 mu (102 Hectares) and the altitude here ranges from 50 to 90 meters. There are many big trees and luxuriant flowers along the winding mountainous paths. The air is fresh and waters are clean.
The construction of the park dates back to August 8, 1995. After the first-phase of the project was completed in April 1997, it opened to public. The basic conditions like air and water quality are suitable for different animals to live in open air. Till now several specially designated areas for peacocks, herbivore, Australian animals, fowls, flightless birds, monkeys, birds and ferocious beasts have been allocated.
Here people have established a healthy and harmonious relationship with their animal friends. The Bird Cage here is the biggest in China that visitors can enter. It takes up 3 square kilometers and covers the Swan Lake, a piece of wetland and some of the mountain area. About 200 first and second grade State-listed protected birds are living here. They are red-crowned cranes, oriental white storks, white swans, black swans and so on. In addition, there are also over 800 various wading birds and flamboyant fancy birds.
