Longxing Temple, in the north of Fengyang County, on the foot of Phoenix hill Rijing Peak. It was built in the second reign years of Emperor Hongwu of the Ming Dynasty (1383), and was imperial family temple. Its predecessor was Yuhuang Temple, where Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang was became a monk. Bing the birthplace of Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang, the founding father of Ming Dynasty, it was one of the famous temples in China in several hundred years. It was listed the key Protection Uint of Cultural Relics of Anhui Province in 1981.
The former temple was broad in scale, it occupied an area of 1,282.5 mu. It is said that “the monk needed to ride the horse to close the temple door”. The reality of Emperor Hongwu recording: there were 381 meditation abodes and rooms. Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang wrote the test of the Longxing Temple tablet and “the First hill” personally, it added the dignified of Longxing Temple.
Passing more than 600 years' vicissitudes, a big part of the constructions was destroyed to varying degrees. But watching the ruins, the layout was still very grand sight. The part of cultural relics and component which was still existed, it could confirm the imposing, specifications and scales in those days. There were four big bronze caldrons outside the palace, it is said that they were cooking for the monks. It can be imaged that the monks in the temple were multitudinous. In front of the palace, there were two ancient pagoda trees, exuberant foliage, they were adding splendor to the ancient temple. The bronze drum and the bronze bell in the palace is the identification that the temple was the imperial family temple.
Since 1992, depending on the supporting of the Buddhism circles of Mountain Jiuhua, Fengyang rebuilt the constructions more than 200, such as the Mile palace, Daxiong palace, Zhu Yuanzhang palace meditation abode and meditation room etc.. It cost more than 10,000,000 yuan. Longxing Temple has got initial scale and returned flourishing. Longxing Temple has become the important Buddhism temple in the area beside the Yangtze River and Huaihe River. |
