Ming Middle Capital City is located in the northwest of FengYang County, it was constructed in the second reign years of Emperor Hongwu of Ming Dynasty (1369). It was according to the plan of the KaoGongJi, the ancient plan of the capital. Taking symmetry as essential features, following left is ancestor and right is the god of the land as tradition. It was from Song and Yuan Dynasties to Ming and Qing Dynasties. It was the masterpiece in the history of capital construction though Imperial Palaces in Nanjing and Beijing. Shan Shiyuan, the former assistant head of the Palace Museum, said : Ming Middle Capital City is the first one of the thousand years' construction in China. It can not be understand the historical origins of the thousands years' capital construction in China without Ming Middle Capital City.
Original, Ming Middle Capital City had three rings of wall, the inside wall, the middle wall and outside wall. It occupied an area of more than 840,000 square meters, and had all kinds construction of more than 9,000. Such as the palace, tower, porch, altar, embassy, etc.
Since more than 600 years, the constructions of Zhongdu have experienced many vicissitudes. But the arrangement, ruins and the things left behind by the deceased are still very grand sight. The Wu Gate was kept intently to the these days, Xihua Gate and nearly 1,100 meters long city wall of Huang City. The city moat has kept original state on the whole, was 80 meters wide. The two sides of the Wu Gate and the Xumi stand of the tower stand, wan inlayed the relief in a row, such as dragon, phoenix, peony common, lotus, cloud, etc. The skill is consummate and the pattern is magnificent. Specially, the five huge dragon stone stands in the sides of FengTian Palace, one side of the square is 2.7 meters long, 1.7 meters high, the area is 7.3 square meters. The relieves were lifelike, delicately carved in various gestures. It was the first one in China. The expert concerned sat a high value on its ruins. The professor Lu Cunhe of Anhui Teacher University said, the site is regarded as East Babylon and First Class in Ming Dynasty. Zhongdu City was listed States key Protection Unit Of Cultural Relics in 1982. |
