Also called Qiao Building, people usually call it Clock Drumtower. Originally it was located above the main gate of Guangde bureau.
Drum Watchtower was built in the Northern Song Dynasty (1067), and had two stories. There is a drum laid in the duplicate building, as well as an eave, a clock, and an Hourglass. The arch volume below is 4.3 meters. It suffered from damage because of chaos caused by war in Yuan Dynasty and was repaired in the 4th year of Hongwu in the Ming Dynasty. The tower was destroyed in the war at the end of the Qing Dynasty. The drum, eave, clock, and Hourglass were all missing. In 1926 gentleman Zhan Jiapeng contributed money to repair three buildings according to the original design. In 1937, Japanese bombed it. It was completely destructed, with only the gallery left. In 1999, this building was repaired and the former days' original condition was restored. |
