This signal tower is situated not far from Quanzhou Bay atop Baogai Hill. Constructed in the mid twelfth century, it was previously known as Guansuo Tower, but is now called the Sisters-in-law Tower, after a legend that two sister-in-law used to look to sea from this site to await the return of their love ones. For hundreds of years, it has been a symbol of this famous homeland of overseas Chinese, moving countless Chinese diaspora to nostalgia for their native place. |
