70 kilometers to the county seat of Shanghang, Mountain Plum National Nature Reserve is situated at the southern brim of central subtropical zone.
The climate here is characterized by the gradual transition from central subtropical zone to southern subtropical zone. And it mainly protects the forest ecosystem and rare animals. Gathered in the nature reserve are 11 kinds of vegetation forms, 63 formations of plant with nearly 2,000 species of vascular plants alone, over 100 species of beasts, over 300 species of birds, 30-odd species of amphibians, 60-odd species of reptiles (including 58 species of snakes), 36 species of mountain stream fishes, and nearly a hundred species of animal planktons.
In 1992,Mountain Plum National Nature Reserve was named at the Seminar of Chinese Nature Conservation Priorities as “An AAAA-level conservation area with world-wide influence and international significance” for its being a zone with largest number and most frequent activity of South Chinese tigers. Scenic spots of Mountain Plum include Chinese Tiger Park, Ecological Park of Yews, “Fresh Water Stream” & “Troubled Water Stream”, Eggs Laying Valley etc. |
