Locally called “Luantan”, Beilu Opera is popular in the Mindong Area centered around Shouning County of East Fujian, South Zhejiang, and neighboring counties of Shouning. Mainly composed of Ch'in Melody and blowing melody, it originated from the region of Zhejiang. During its long-term development, it absorbed the melodies of Anhui Opera, Han Opera, Tanhuang and folk songs and integrated them into an multi-melody opera mainly based on Pingban which is closely related with Ch'in Melody and blowing melody. Traditional plays of Beilu Opera include “Hack Mountain to Save Mother”, “Meeting between the Odd and the Even”, “Iron Sand Bow”, “Iron Lotus”, “predestined by Emerald Green Clothes”, “Hit Gold Crown”, “Go to Chenzhou”, “Wang Kylin”, “Luocheng Writing a Book” etc. |
