The loquat output of Putian constitutes 40% of that of China. Boasting advanced cultivation techniques, Putian has more than 100 varieties of loquats, which are famed for their excellent “color, fragrance and taste”. The major growing district of Changtai Town is also called “the First Hometown of Chinese Loquat”.
Besides table use, the loquat can also be processed into canned loquat, fruit juice, loquat cream and loquat wine, and is found to have important medicinal values. Loquats are sour-sweet in taste, and can be used for moistening the lung, relieving the cough, quenching thirst and normalizing the function of the stomach.
