Built in 1732 and lying in the west of Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province and 45 kilometers to county seat of Nanjing, the 21.5-meter high Hegui Building is the tallest earth building ever known. It covers a floor area of 1,947.3 square meters and a construction area of 6,450 square meters. There are five stories, with 28 rooms on each floor and altogether 140 rooms. Praised as “No.1 Mystical Building in the World” and built on a marsh area of over 3,000 square meters, it is grandeur, magnificent, large and solid, and it can be rated as A Wonder of Architecture. The name of Hegui (literally Peace & Precious) is derived from the Chinese saying of traditional virtues “Peace is the most prized value”. |
