In times of feudal society marriage of young couples depended on will of parents and introduction of matchmaker. When boy's family took fancy to a girl, they would ask a match maker to propose to the girls family. If the girl's parents agreed, they would ask a geomancer to tell whether the young couples were well-matched according to animals used to symbolize the year in which he or she was born. Now people have gotten rid of this kind of arranged marriage.
On wedding day, the bridegroom's family sent a cart to pick up the bride whom was made dress up, her head was covered with a red scarf. In the evening their close friends and young neighbors would come to visit the new couples and make fun of them. After that women who had borne both boys and girls would mad bed for the new couples, put on bed were walnuts, peanuts, dates, litchis or longan, implied lucky meaning.
On the third day after wedding, the new couple used to visit bride's family, bringing presents. They were dined dumplings. |
