Water Vessels

Water Vessels

Pan and Yi were a set of vessels for nobles of Zhou Dynasty to wash hands and face. When the master needs to wash his hands or face, an elder servant would held yi and pour water to his hands for washing and a young servant would carry a pan to contaim the filthy water. After that, the young servant would hand the master a towel for wiping hands and face. From this, we know some aspects of the ritual system of that time.
