Built in 1954, Laohuling Reservoir has a total capacity of 6.12 million cubic meters and an effective storage capacity of 4.8 million cubic meters. Based on the reservoir, Laohuling Scenic Area, also called Water City—Shanshui International is under construction now. Located to the south of the Tropic of Cancer, the area experiences a sub-tropical maritime climate, enjoying abundant sunshine and rainfall. With a mild climate and without snow through the year, it has an average annual temperature of about 21°C. The coldest month falls in January when the average temperature is 12.8°C, while the hottest months fall in July and August when the average temperature is 28.2°C. Its average annual precipitation is 1,300mm.
Laohuling Scenic Area is rich in natural and man-made resources. Now it has a planned area of 5,000 mu, of which 1,200 mu is water surface area and 3,800 mu is land area. The existing isles and lakes, valleys and hills, dams and green waters will make the scenic area a particular destination for eco-tours, conferences, business trips, vacations, expeditions, sports, health-building activities, and recreational activities. On the building list are holiday cottages, stadiums and gymnasiums, international conference center, sports and expedition facilities, natural science center, and various water entertainment items. When completed, the scenic area will become a multi-functional tourist attraction, the first top-rated comprehensive center really near Nanning downtown for conference, recreation and tourism. |
