Water-Drinking Festival

On the occasion of the Dragon Boat Festival, the citizens in Wudalianchi City enjoy their Water-Drinking Festival. It is the grandest festival here, and the city government allows the people to have a three-day holiday. Before the festival, the people all wait at the fountains for the coming of the festival. Once the clock tolls to tell its arrival, people rush to drink from the taps arranged in a circle and smilingly offer greetings to each other. Legeng has it that the water at zero o'clock of the Dragon Boat Festival is “holy water” symbolizing luck. The water can cure many diseases and help people avoid sufferings for the whole year. The time around the Dragon Boat Festival is its tour and recuperation season. The Five-Linked-Pond Attraction has become a unique tourist summer resort in north China.
