Mudanjiang City is the transliteration of rotating Manchu “ Wula”, which means the crooked river. Mudanjiang is a young city; it was the very meagerly populated virgin pasture originally. While building the railway of the Middle East in 1903, tsarist Russia set up the station here. Because it was located in the riverbank of Peony River, so it is named Mudanjiang.
