Otherwise known as Jiangling, located in the middle and south of Hubei Province, on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River, in the central part of Jianghan Plain, Jingzhou City covers an area of 14,100 square kilometers, with a population of 6.3 million. It is a national-level historical and cultural city, and is honored as Excellent Tourism City and Sanitary City.
Jingzhou has a convenient transportation. The Port of Shashi is an important port on the middle reaches of the Yangtze River. Jingzhou Yangtze River Highway Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge ranking the second in the world. The 207 National Highway runs through the city from south to north, and the 318 National Highway and Yihuang Expressway from east to west. Jingzhou has a solid agricultural foundation. The total output of grain, cotton, oil-bearing seeds and the aquatic products ranks the first in Hubei Province. There are seven listed companies such as Sanonda in this city. Jingzhou has established a good and stable relationship with 16 cities of 10 countries including South Korea and Germany. Some large-scale multinational companies such as Philips of the Nether-lands have made investment in this city.
With a long history and prosperous culture, Jingzhou is one of the cradles of the Chu Culture and one of the central places of the Three-Kingdom Culture. Its major scenic spots and cultural sites include: Jingzhou Ancient City, the museum, Honghu Lake, Songzi Weishui Scenic Spot and Tian-e-zhou Oxbow (Swan Oxbow) Natural Reserve for David's deer of Shishou City. The annual events of Jingzhou International Dragon Boat Festival and Jingzhou Phoenix Music Festival make this city a center for promoting and popularizing Chu Culture, Culture of Three Kingdoms, and Culture of Dragon and Phoenix. |
