Martyrs' Shrine

It is a low mountains scenery area, climbing up the mountain from the back of Southern Mountain Grand Temple, going across the Victory Place, and then you enter the light green sea. Along the banks, the camphor trees and pine trees can not hide their verdant green, Shoujian River in the middle is blocked by Huayan Lake in the upstream, and then it is changed into the river with gurgling. The stones among the gorge reveal in the water surface, which are pure and dustless, as the complements of the dark green forest, it gives us the feeling of the picturesque scenery with green mountains and elegant water.
In the green mountains with pine trees, there is a splendid mausoleum, which is made by imitating Zhongshan Mausoleum in Nanjing. It seriously stands against north under Xianglu Peak. This is Martyry, established in purpose of remembering soldiers died in anti-Japanese battle.
 
Martyry was planed for establishment in 1938 and completed in 1942. This is the only martyr mausoleum to remember died soldiers in anti-Japanese battle. It is large and splendid with square layout, lower front and higher rear. The road made of granite flag stone joints with the 267 steps, this just connects “7th July” cenotaph, memorial hall, respect stele and Xiangtang together from lower to upper. The connected one is 240 meters long, 60 meters wide; totally occupation is 14,400 square meters. Upper the Martyry is the memorial forest to remember Kiang Jieshi visiting The Southern Mountain. Green mountains stand sides of the Martyry; large pine trees are around it. The mountain encircles all the building, which includes 13 large mausoleums and buries remains of all the soldiers of the 9th war zone in anti-Japanese battle. In Oct. of 1983, it is listed into “Provincial Protected Important Cultural Relic” in Hu'nan. In Dec. of 1997, it is listed into “National Protected Relic” by State Department.

This scenic area includes such scenery spots as Luosi Pool, Yuban Ridge, Martyrs' Shrine and so on. It is either dense forest with red fruits and green leaves; or the artificial lakelets, the blue water reflects the sky; while the flowers and trees scientific research test spot Woods Garden even has many precious flowers and fantastic grass which grow healthily, presenting an impressive sight.
