Mazu Nunnery is a place for B uddhist Huanrang to pass on the doctrine to Mazu Daoyi, therefore it is also named as “the missionary courtyard”.
Before the establishment of new China, there were a lot of personal villas in this area. Presently it is reconstructed into the “Southern Mountain Hotel”. In the surrounding area, there are seven buildings with the room for reception; the missionary courtyard is rebuilt into the reception room. On the left in front of the nunnery, there is a cliff, on which engraved two Chinese characters “Zuyuan (the origin of ancestor)”, the stone inscription of Song Dynasty, the diameter of the character is about two feet, it is said that it is the place for Huairang to grind the mirror. In front of the nunnery, there is the grave of Huairang “Zuishenglun Tower”. |
