King Wong Delights the Palate

A long-time friend is convinced there is an under ground pipeline that connects Chinese restaurants, pumping the same food to each and every one.
Not so at King Wong, a tiny eatery in a strip shopping center on Haddonfield Road.
King Wong’s expansive menu focuses on Szechuan, Hunan and Cantonese cuisines, with an emphasis on healthy fare. No to MSG. Yes to cholesterol-free vegetable oil. There also is a special section for weight watchers.
I order and old standby, beef with string beans, priced at $5.50 as a luncheon special and $9.25 for a take away portion with rice.
Sliced in slender, bitesize pieces, the beef is tender. The beans are vivid green, sweet and pleasantly crunchy. Fluffy white rice is a spot-on soaker-upper for slightly salty brown sauce.
The decor is humble, but you can expect royal treat ment at King Wong. I placed my order, then dropped off laundry at a neighboring dry cleaner.
When I returned, lunch was waiting.
Short Order appears Thursdays. Rotating staff writers review lunch spots where patrons can eat in or take out in a short time. Reach Eileen Smith at (856)486-2444 or esmith@courierpostonline.com
