The Beam Broken Hall is the second hill entrance gate, a key cultural and historical relic protected by Jiangsu Province government. It was built in the Yuan Dynasty (1206?1367), over 600 years old. Just as its name implies, there is a broken beam. Which one is it? Why is it called Beam Broken Hall? According to the lever principle of mechanics, two logs are used as the girder, which supported by a row of wood brackets, through which gravitation can be decentralized. Also, the girder is supported by Pipa Pendants at both sides and the chessboard grid at four corners of the roof. In this way, wood material can be saved in the construction. No metal fix component but only the dowels and tenons made with wooden or bamboo are used when building this hall, which make it particularly rare and valuable. People call it a Millennium Standing Hall with Broken Beam. Inside the hall, there are four steles on which the history of Huqiu and Yunyan Pagoda are carved. If knocking the steles, traveler may hear a sound of rat-tat, so it is also known as the Sounding Stele.
