Wuyi Rock Tea is like a pearl of Wu-long Tea with a long history, produced in the rocks of Mountain Wuyi, Cong'an County at the north of Fujian Province. Its main species include Wuyi Narcissus, the Red Robe and so on, among which the Red Robe is the most precious one. It is said that in Ming Dynasty, there was a scholar (provincial graduate) being sick in Mountain Wuyi when he was on the way to take part in the examination held in the capital; then he met a monk who gave him the Red Robe Tea for drinking to cure his acute abdomen pain. The effect was so good that when he hit the Number One Scholar, he came back to Mountain Wuyi and extended his gratitude to the monk. When he knew where the tea trees were planted, he took off the Red Robe he wore as being the No.1 Scholar, walked around the tea trees for three circles, and then put the robe on the trees. That is why we now have a tea called “Red Robe”.

The color of Wuyi Rock tea is green-brown in fresh. The tea soup is deep orange, transparent and gorgeous; the edge of tea leaves will become bright-red, and the center of it being light-green and yellow. Small tea pot and tea cups are generally used that can produce the thick fragrant, and you can still smell it even the tea is steeped for 5-6 times.

According to the history materials, even from Tang Dynasty the public already regarded Wuyi Rock Tea as a favorite gift. During the period of Song and Yuan Dynasties, it had been listed as “Articles of Tribute”. In Yuan Dynasty, the Baking Bureau and the Imperial Tea Garden had been set-up in Mountain Wuyi. While in the years of Kanxi, Qing Dynasty, Wuyi Rock Tea had been sold throughout the world including the West Europe, North America and South Asia; at that time, the European thought that the Wuyi Rock Tea was the general title of all Chinese tea.

Long time ago Wu Rock Tea had been regarded as the best drink for preserving health and curing diseases. In ancient times Shennong (meaning “Divine Farmer”, reputedly teaching the ancients agriculture and medicine) used it to clear away 72 toxic substances; nowadays lots of function of the Tea has been concluded in the endeavor of many doctors from different generations through the clinic experiments, for example, anti-aging, anti-tumor, improving the immunity, preventing the cardiovascular diseases, reducing weight, making beauty, and the protection for urinary organs and digestive system as well.
