| | Hegui Building——“the tallest earth building on marsh areas” [edit this] | | Built in 1732 and lying in the west of Nanjing County, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province and 45 kilometers to county seat of Nanjing, the 21.5-meter high Hegui Building is the tallest earth building ever known. It covers a floor area of 1,947.3 square meters and a construction area of 6,450 square meters. There are five stories, with 28 rooms on each floor and altogether 140 rooms. Praised as “No.1 Mystical Building in the World” and built on a marsh area of over 3,000 square meters, it is grandeur, magnificent, large and solid, and it can be rated as A Wonder of Architecture. | Nanjing Tianluokeng Earth-building Group [edit this] | | As a key national cultural relics, Nanjing Tianluokeng Earth-building Group is a large scale residential building group, with a grand outlook. Standing on the middle of the mountain, facing the south, it is composed of five earth buildings. The square building, called Buyunlou (Cloud stepping building) stands in the middle, and surrounded by three round buildings (Ruiyun Buiding, Hechang Building and Zhenchang Building) and one elliptical building (Wenchang Building).
Five buildings were built according to the positions of “gold, wood, water, fire, and earth”, and not only for aesthetic reasons, but also for the function of fortification. | Edit by: Dorothy | |
| Eryi Building——“the treasure of round earth buildings” [edit this] | | Built in 1770 and lying in Dadi Village, Xiandu Town, Hua'an County, Zhangzhou City, Eryi Building covers an area of over 6,000 square meters and is 16 meters high with a diameter of 73.4 meters. The four-storey building consists of two circles (the inside one and the outside one) with a total of 12 combinations. There are altogether 192 rooms in addition to the doors, halls and staircases, with 952 color paintings of murals in total. Famous both near and far for its long history, grand scale, scientific design, being kept in good condition as well as its exquisite color paintings of murals and rich culture, Eryi Building is reputed as “No.1 Round Building in China” and “National Treasure”. | Edit by: Dorothy | |
