Xiongguan Square

Xiongguan Square, which lies in the south of the city, is composed of three parts for memorial, entertainment and culture respectively, with a total area of 118,000 square meters. The square, blending traditional view of appreciation of beauty and with modern urban construciton styles of urban, creates a series of new humanistic landscape with the profound historical culture of the Great Wall and rich cultural resources of the Silk Road.

Qiyi Glacier

“Qiyi Glacier”, 120 kilometres away from the urban area, 4,300 meters above the sea level, covering about 5 square kilometers, is the typical continental glacier in China, as well as one of the nearest glaciers to the cities in Asia, which has the icy layers of 120 meters high at its thickest point. In the sunshine under the blue sky, the great glacier is so clean, brilliant and dazzling that it looks just like a wonderful picture which makes you never forget its beauty once you have seen it.

Taolai River

Taolai River belongs to the system of the Black Rivers, orginally named “Huanshui” which means “the water given by the God” and also called “Big North River”. It comes from Mountain Qilian and flows though about 35 kilometers within Jiayuguan Pass. As a result of the water flowing, scratching all the year round, the upper part of the ricer has been formed a great great gorge with the depth from 50 or 60 meters to 80 meters high. You will be shocked by the arduous valley, steep mountains, onrushing river and other natural sights.

The Over-hanging Great Wall

The Over-hanging Great Wall is on Mountain Heishan hillside which is four kilometers north of Jiayuguan Pass. It looks as if the Great Wall hangs upside down and the hard arm is hanging over. So it has got the reputation of “Over-hanging”. It was originally built in 1539 in the Ming Dynasty, and it was one of the main entrances to West Regions in ancicnt times. As one part of the West Great Wall, steep and majestic, the “Over-hanging” Great Wall is regarded as “Badaling Great Western China”.

Demon City

Demon City in Flower Sea is 80 kilometers north of Jiayuguan Pass. It is a yadan-landform region region covering about 10 square kilometers. Here flooded and eroded by water and wind over thousands of years, the white clay-pan has formed some grooves and swelling, which seem like houses and castles or men and animals with various gestures and forms. They are so strange and magnificent that it is called a Demon City by local people.
