Wuwei City is located at the eastern end of the Hexi Corridor in the west of Gansu Province, and is named so because it was “the place swept by the army during the expedition under the leadership of Emperor Wu of the Han Dynasty”. It was one of the four shires of the Hexi Corridor in the Western Han Dynasty and ancient capital of six dynasties in Western Regions. With substantial products, it is noted as “Silver Wuwei City” and depicted as “Liangzhou, a plain that teems with crops and grains”. Moreover, it has become well known due to the excavation of the statue of “Horse on the Swifts”, which is now a symbol of Chinese tourism.
