Tianxin Cave lies in the middle of Duguduo Peak, the southern extension of Mountain Baotianman. Right in the centre of steep cliffs, the cave leads down to the heart of the mountain and hence its name is derived.

A shaft-like stalactite cave, the outlet is narrow and it is spacious inside. Over 20m down, there are two connected spaces with a total area of around 800m2 and the heights of walls range from 10m to 30m. The colored decoration patterns, one wonder of the nature, are a unique part of the cave. The stalactites in the cave are in different shapes and sizes, giving endless associations to household stories in Chinese mythology such as the Children-Sending Guan Yin, Seven Fairies, and Eight Immortals Crossing the Sea and so on. Many branches and side caves could be found here. Owing to its size and tourism values, the place has been developed into an attractive sight at the south foot of Mountain Baotianman.

Tiger Peak

  [edit this]

Located southeast of Mountain Baotianman, by all accounts it derived its name because a hunter captured a tiger here. One of the main peaks in Mountain Funiu, it extends east to west with an altitude of 1,795m. The granite that constitutes the mountain could be dated back to 0.14-0.195 billion years ago. It is a place that has never suffered from damage of any kind and therefore there are numerous virgin forests on the mountain. Owing to destructions of the ecological system down the mountain, some rare tree species and animals could be found in this little heaven. In addition, various specimens of animals and plants, living in south or north, could be traced here.

As the key tourism development section at the south foot of Mountain Baotianman, it has become a hot tourist route. Along the 10km long valley, there are standing imposing peaks and steep cliffs. The clear water flows over the granite river bed and fancy stones on the bed have added to more fun. Into the attraction, there is a 2km long section which is reputed for the countless hanging stones. Stacks of stones have shaped many peaks which give people a false impression that they were built, but actually it is a work of nature. Seven Star Pond, the main part of the attraction, features steep terrains and overlapping waterfalls. The granite body of the mountain is divided into seven levels and the Qitan River runs down them to make a waterfall screen. The pond, shaped as a result of water erosion, is deep, pure and clear. Besides, the Tianjing Waterfall, not far from the pond, runs down with a height of over 80m and makes an imposing view.

The Cave of Immortals

  [edit this]

The Cave of Immortals lies right at the foot of Mountain Dadong, the northern extension of Mountain Baotianman.

In a river valley where many steep cliffs are standing out, the Songhe River is flowing by before the cave. The entrance, several meters high, looks like a mouth of a titan in the wall. Into the entrance there is a stone hall so spacious as to hold several thousand people. The stalactites and stalagmites could be seen everywhere. Many minor caves connect with each other, making an impressive network. Once in the hall there were many statues of gods, among which 18 Arhats are the most famous. Around the edges of the hall are the caves leading to the inside. Climbing the walls, one may wind his way through other caves, halls and sky wells. A journey in this maze-like place gives one a lot of surprises and joys. The cave is also the place where numerous bats inhabit. As to the depth of the cave, there are no definite answers. The Nanzhao County Records, a book compiled in the Qing Dynasty, says there are caves inside the caves and the deeper one goes, the narrower it gets. Around one day's walk leads to many other caves under which the slowly flowing rivers could be heard, but not be seen. Then there is a big cave with a blue pool inside. The stones in the pool can’t be measured and the cold air around nips. A big log is spanning across the pool like a bridge, but no one dares to pass on it. Legend has it that there was once a beautiful maid, in order to cure his father's illness, coming to catch some shrimps and crabs in the Songhe River and got trapped in the cave. Enlightened by an immortal, she finally became a fairy and that's how the cave got its name.

The Karst Caverns

  [edit this]

The Karst Caverns, facing the Baotianman Peak, is constituted by fine marbles. Owing to natural weathering on the surface, there have arisen many stalactite grottos in the area. Coming into the round grotto entrance, there is plenty of space inside. It is going to be a lot of fun winding one's way out. In the entire year it remains humid in the grottos and the natural weathering has formed many stalactite columns of different shapes. Coming into the maze of these shiny stones, one may feel like he is in a crystal palace. With a length of nearly 1km, it leads to the mountain peak. Currently there is a main cave stretching over 500m and several side caves with depths ranging from 5m to 20m. Three channels into the main cave, there is an oval sky well which is over 30m in diameter and over 10m in height. The bottom, wall and roof are all made of stalactite. After the sky well the road forks out into two parts, leading to two big channels where all kinds of stalactites are well preserved. Just beside the main cave stands a side cave of around 12m high, which leads down to other channels. These caves, combined with other small ones, have formed a cluster of stalactite caverns.
