Situated in the south of He'nan Province, Zhumadian City has been a communication hub since ancient times. Messengers and officials passing by took some rest here as a post, hence it's got the name “Zhumadian” (a place where people rest themselves and their horses). Building upon the important position, Zhumadian has become a key area for business and trade. With an area of 15,000km2 and a population of 8.15 million, it has 1 district and 9 counties under its administration.

Zhumadian boasts of its unique and rich wealth of tourism resources. In the west there are mountains that beset it around and in the east the vast plains extend far beyond. The natural and historic landscapes blend perfectly here. Among them are Mountain Chaya, reputed as “A miniature landscape in Central China”, Boshan Lake, Mountain Tianzhong, the Old Residence of Yang Jingyu——a hero of resistance to Japanese invasion, the Tomb of Li Si, Huaguating, where Fu Xi, the founding father of Chinese nation had performed astrological rituals, etc.
Situated in the mid-altitude zone and categorized as the transitional climate between northern subtropical zone and warm temperate zone, Zhumadian features clearly demarcated seasons, sufficient rainfall and plentiful sunlight, all of which are extremely agreeable for the growth of crops and have made the place an important grain and oil production base of national level, regarded as “the grain store of the country”, “the oil tank of Central China” and “the kingdom of sesame”.
The mountains in Zhumadian feature a spectacle of splendor and its waters display unbelievable charms. Mountain Boshan, 40 kilometers to the south of Zhumadian, is high and steep, but no danger to climb. The lakes are dotted everywhere in the mountain and achieve a unified entity with it. The calmness and charms of waters among the mountain is just like a beautiful lass. The Boshan Forest Farm, standing beside the mountain, is called the National Forest Park.

Located around the subtropical zone in climate, Mountain Boshan is suitable for the growth of various kinds of vegetables. With a forest coverage of 75%, the mountain and water has made it a superb place for vacations and summer escape. Mountain
Chaya, an extension of the eastern part of Mountain Funiu, is renowned for its unique patterns of mountains and rocks and wins the reputation of “a Central China miniascape”. 25 kilometers to the west of Suiping County, it enjoys convenient communication. The 107 National Highway, Jingzhu Expressway, and the Jingguang Railway come across the county. As a scenic attraction at provincial leval, Mountain Chaya has an area of 50 km2 and an average height of 600 meters. Owing to important location, it has been a strategic point since ancient times. In the Period of Spring and Autumn, the kingdoms of Wu and Chu warred here. The emperor of Wu died and was buried at the foot of Tianmo peak. As time has worn away a lot, the tomb to the emperor of Wu still remains. Shang Rang, a General of the Tang Dynasty stationed his army here and joined forces with Huang Chao, an uprising leader to guard the mountain. To commemorate him, a cave is named after him. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Gao Yingxiang, uncle of Li Zicheng, the rebel leader, took the place as the headquarters. There are now historic relics left, bearing witness to it.
