The Heavenly Master's Residence is where they lived and offered sacrifice, covering a total area of over 50 thousand square meters with a floor space of 14 thousand square meters. It is an ancient architectural complex which is constructed according to styles of princes' residences. Located at the central part of Shangqing Old Town, the residence is a grand and magnificent building surrounded by beautiful hills and the Luxi River, bordering Mountain Western Hua to the north and facing Mountain Pipa to the south. Here, Shangqing means the Shangqing Paradise of Yuyu Sky where Lingbao God——one of the three highest gods in Taoism lives. The Town was established in the 8th year (625 B.C.) of Emperor Wude of the Tang Dynasty, 1,300 years ago. Surrounded by hills established beside water, it has a picturesque environment here. Its rich cultural heritage and proud history manifested by celebrities who lived here before make it seem to be out of the contemporary era. Mazu Daoyi, a respectable monk in the Tang Period, built up the Yingtian Temple, realizing a further development of Zen of Buddhism. Lu Xiangshan, a great confucianist in the Southern Song Period, established the Xiangshan Colledge, which was listed as one of the four biggest colleges in China then. Xiayan, a prime minister of the Ming Dynasty, was born in Guizhou Village, opposite to this town. Furthermore, tens of Heavenly Masters and their offspring who controlled Taoism affairs lived and multiplied here. The main historical sites include Changqing Mill, Liuhou Family Temple, Heavenly Master's Residence, Shangqing Palace, Dongyue Palace, Tianyuande Medicine Store, and the Catholicism Church. Especially, the folk houses, stores, houses projecting over water, and old ports remain the styles of the Ming and Qing Period, expressing their historical and cultural charm, which record the temporal prosperity and glory.     Immortals' City is also known as Deity Cliff. Facing Luxi River to the east, it is a great peak with all sides quite steep. There are many connected caves and natural stone holes scattered in this mountain. You can find yourself in a foggy and mysterious atmosphere among green trees and straightforward bamboos. Why this mountain is called Immortals' City? Because in the old days, it is a wonderland where deities live. In the Wei and Jin Period, the fourth Heavenly Master——Zhang Sheng built up a temple, named Doushuai Temple today, on the peak of this mountain to erect a sculpture of Lao-tzu and memorize his achievements. During the Xi'ning Period of Song Dynasty, Baoyue Monk who was from Pu City established a temple here which attained wide admiration of people than. In April 2002, archeologists discovered an amazing and unprecedented antique, “Ling Han (Soul Letter)” with 7 layers, in which words like “The source of Baoyue Monk' soul is clearance”. In the poem named Watching Immortals' City at Anren Port, Gu Kuang, a great poet in the Tang Dynasty, described a heaven-like and mysterious city for us, and many people are attracted by its unique charm. Now, the Celestial Wind Bridge across the gap between cliffs and the footways for mountain visiting have been completed for tourists. Once you reach the peak, you will find yourself at a perfect position where you are able to overlook the grand scene involving all of the 99 peaks of Mountain Longhu. A classical poem remarked:“Cloud like white lotus blossomed at the thousand-chi (a Chinese unit of length) high peak. Walking at such a point, one can enjoy a magnificent scene which is even better than Penglai (a famous earthy paradise in China).”

    Five kilometers away from Shanqing Old Towm to the southeast is Mountain Tianmen Ecological Resort, which constitutes the major part of Mountain Longhu National Geological and Natural Park.
