??The Cloud-covered Temple, its old name was the Taming-dragon Monastery, was first built in the Tang Dynasty. In the 30th year of Wanli Period in the Ming Dynasty, it was obliged to change the name into the Cloud-covered Temple by the emperor because the temple is near the tiptop and covered with mists and clouds throughout the year. Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty wrote: “cloudy peaks and Dharma Realm”, “Panshan Mountain’s excellent peaks”. Emperor Qianlong wrote a couplet: “green mountains and white clouds are always comfortable; the happiness and kindness from Zen and Dharma are realized no matter being alive or not.” And he called the temple “extremely fascinating”. Buddha of Three Bodies is worshiped in the main hall with thousands of Buddha surrounding along the walls. Bhaisaijya Buddha and Ksitigarbha Bodhisattva are separately worshiped in the east and west compound halls. East of the temple, there stands a peak, which is the highest peak of the Panshan Mountain---the Hanging-moon Peak, at an altitude of 864.4 meters. On top of the peak is the Dingguang Buddish Dagoba, which was built by Chan Master Zhiyuan in the Yanhe Period of the Tang Dynasty. The Coming from Afar Peak connects the Hanging-moon Peak from south to north. A hexagonal bell pavilion with double eaves was built on top of the peak, in which an ancient bell is suspending whose sound shakes three counties, so it’s well-known in the area of east Beijing.
