Napahai Nature Reserve (napahai ziran baohqu) is both an ideal grazing field for herdsmen and a paradise for many species of birds. This is, in the true sense, a seasonal lake. When summer comes, snow on the adjacent mountains melts and flows down into about ten rivers forming a vast lake. In the dry season, Napahai becomes a boundless green grassland--the best time for herding sheep or cattle. Every September, the lake again turns into a temporary habitat for migratory birds, such as bar-headed geese, wild ducks and black-necked cranes (one of the 12 rarest bird species in the world). During this period, the lake becomes an ideal place for ornithologists from around the world.

Haba Snow Mountain (haba xueshan) boasts glaciers, lakes and waterfalls, and contains one of the best preserved nature reserves in Shangri-la.

The main peak of the mountain is 5396m above sea level and is capped with snow all year round. On the mountain side, crystal-clear glaciers hang and the valleys on the northern side of the mountain are dotted with numerous lakes, the most beautiful being Heihai Lake. Each year between June and August millions of azaleas come into bloom. One of the most unusual things about this spot is that you can walk on the flowers without crushing them!

There are also many waterfalls here. Tumbling down the northeastern side of the mountain is Haba Waterfall, also known as the "Great Hanging Water", which is more than 200m high and pours down with an amazing momentum.

The mountain is also rich in animal resources. Yunnan gold-haired monkeys, rhesus monkey, wild boar and even snow leopards, pandas and black bears inhabit this wild land. Rare plants and medical herbs also thrive here, including orchids, lily and Chinese caterpillar fungi.

The Prince Snow Mountain is seated at the west end of the Baimang Snow Mountain, higher and more elegant compared with the Bamang Snow Mountain. The local Zang people (Tibetans) regard it as a Holy Mountain. Each year in autumn, the Zang people come from far and near gathering here for Hajj the Prince Snow Mountain. One thing we would like to warn you is that climbing Meli Mountain could be very dangerous. Several attempts have been made to conquere Meli Mountain since '90, but all failed.

In 1991, a Sino-Japan joint climbing team were very close to the main peak-Kawagebo when it began to snow heavely. The team were forced to abandon the climbing plan, and the whole team died in the way of returning to No.3 Base of 5,100 meters above sea level, including 6 Chinese and 11 Japanese, which marked the greatest sacrifice in the history of mountain- climbing in China. It's until in July,1998 that the frozen corpses of the team were found.

The best season for visiting the Prince Snow Mountain is in the summer time and it must be clear day.

Bita means "a piece of land as soft as cattle hair felt" in Tibet language, "Hai" means "sea". Roads have been constructed to this scenic area. The total area of the "sea" is 3,000 meters in length, the maximum width of the lake is over 700 meters. The altitude of the lake is 3,540 meters forming up by gathering the water streaming down from the surrounding mountains.

One of the two distinctive biological characters of the lake is the 50 - centimeter - thick grass coverings on the surface of the lake, creating a world of floating hydrophyte. The other is the scene happening every late spring and early summer. When the azalea on the surrounding mountains are in full bloom, the fish in the water are always found lethargic sleep on the surface of the lake for swallowing some lightly - poisonous petals falling off the azalea. The local people call this wonder as " Fish Drunk by Azalea ".

In the primeval forest on the north bank of the lake, many cabins are built there for the convenience of the tourists. Activities like horse riding, trekking and boating are available at the customer's will.
