September 20, 2002, China Mountain Tianmu Forest Tourism Resource Expo was held in Lin'an. With abundant natural resource, Lin'an is one of “national model areas of ecology”.

The 8 days festival focus on green and ecology. Presently, it enjoys a very high market reputation in Shanghai and Nianjing. With the development of the brand of Forest Expo, Lin'an is being built as a city of ecology. City construction and renovation projects in plenty really improve the city image a lot and create a great chance to bridge with the cities in the southern wing f the Yangtze River Delta.

Forest Expo held a lot of activities and events, such as Mountains Tianmu Forest Tourism Resource Exhibition, Tianmu Culture Exhibition, 2003 China Lin'an Trade Fair, A health travel in Tianmu forest etc.

Sweet osmanthus is the city flower of Hangzhou, which is one of China's five osmanthus producing areas including Hangzhou, Xianling, Suzhou, Guiling and Hefei. The West Lake Osmanthus Festival is held in Hangzhou every autumn when osmanthus flowers are in full bloom.

Sweet Ostmanthus Rain at Manjuelong Village, is the main scene for festive celebrations. Along the road, more than 7,000 ostmanthus trees are planted. During the period of Ostmanthus Festival, there are more than 200 colorful tents on the two sides of the road. The tourists can enjoy the tea and ostmanthus in the tents which are beside the ostmanthus trees.

West Lake Ostmanthus Festival combines “ostmanthus culture” and “tea culture” together. In the opening ceremony, a grand performance with dragon well tea courtesy performance is held. Meanwhile, there are “Cherish the memory of Premier Zhou Eng Lei” “Yu Da FU ‘Late Ostmanthus’forum” etc. In order to enhance its participation, Manjuelong Village will hold tea courtesy performance of 6 major regional styles, flower art performance, open challenge of bridge and chess, mini golf and kids garden etc.

West Lake Ostmanthus Festival will last for one month.

The Hangzhou West Lake Expo started in 1929. Since it was resumed in 2000, it has been successfully staged for eight consecutive times. The Expo gives prominence to the aim for “a platform for developing the convention and exhibition industry, a carrier of cultural and ideological progress, and a festival for the ordinary people and the tourists from home and abroad”, sticks to the goal of “people first, thrift, virtue and safety”, thus playing the role as a platform, leader and incubator for developing the convention and exhibition industry.

The Expo gives prominence to the theme “harmonious West Lake, charming Hangzhou”, centers around constructing Hangzhou's fame as “a city with quality life”, and develops the brand in the convention and exhibition industry as “West Lake Expo, City with Quality Life”. It boasts 65 projects, which are linked together with the theme of life quality, in 7 series of conventions and exhibitions: healthy life, leisure life, comfortable life, artistic life, beautiful life, digital life and entrepreneurship life.

Since it was resumed in 2000, the West Lake Expo has received visitors totaling 72,193,7000 person-times, the trade transaction value amounted to 63.241 billion RMB yuan, the contracted foreign investment reached 4.924 billion USD, and contracted domestic investment totaled 67.553 billion yuan, facilitating the development of the convention and exhibition industry in Hangzhou. It provides a platform and plays a leading role in developing the convention and exhibition industry in Hangzhou. As the incubator of Hangzhou's convention and exhibition industry, apart from the projects during the Expo in October, the West Lake Expo has also planned and developed a group of projects covering the rest of the year to promote the balanced development of the convention and exhibition industry. In 2007, the latter type of projects will account for 51% of the total. The West Lake Expo has facilitated the development of the convention and exhibition industry not only in the city proper, but also in the counties (county-level cities) of Hangzhou. The counties (county-level cities) have been actively participating in the West Lake Expo, thus the coordinated development pattern of the greater Hangzhou taking its shape.

Aboard arts performance groups, domestic and provincial folk arts performance groups, Hangzhou 13 Districts performance groups and volunteers are invited to attend the West Lake Carnival parade. Several performance stages are set up along the parade line, the performances and emulations are organized to create direct communication between the audience and the actors. During the night, besides Chinese and foreign arts performance, several activities, such as torch revelry, folk arts performance, disco and beer drinking competition, will be held in the downtown city or in the parks.

It takes two hours to drive from Hangzhou to Thousand-Island Lake that has been long reputed as “The most beautiful water in the world”. No.1 China Thousand-Island Lake Beautiful Water Festival was held on the Thousand-Island Lake in September 2002. The subject of Thousand-Island Lake Beautiful Water Festival is “People, Water, and Development”. The whole event is formed by four major parts including water culture, water tourism, water sports and water economic. During the festival, there are around 20 activities such as song and dance performance on the water, water sports competition, water games, kayak performance, huge net fishing etc. 2003 China Hanghzou Thousand-Island Beautiful Water Festival was held in September in Thousand-Island Lake. Initially, 9 major subjects were planned including “beautiful water and view”, “beautiful water and food”, “beautiful water and residence”, “beautiful water industry” and “beautiful water sports” etc.
