Located at the southern foot of Solitary Hill, Zhejiang Provincial Museum opened to the public in 1929. The first West Lake Expo was held here.

Originally it was known as the Zhejiang West Lake Museum. Afterwards, it was renamed as Zhejiang Provincial Museum. After its expansion by the end of 1990, the new museum is in a style of typical Chinese garden. With more than 100,000 pieces of collections, it is a humanities museum majors in collecting, presenting and researching on the historical relics, paintings and calligraphies. Especially, it features the collections of paintings, calligraphies and celadon-wares through the ages, especially the unearthed relics of Hemudu Culture Site and Liangzhu Culture Site. In the recent years, the museum was reconstructed and expanded. Currently, it has Historical Relics Hall, Paintings and Calligraphy Hall, Celadon-ware Hall, Handicraft Hall, International Exchange Hall.
