| | [edit this] | | Konya City is the capital of the Konya province, located in the central Anatolia Plateau with a population around 1.5 million inhabitants. Thanks to its location in the Anatolian Plateau is one of the most important trading centres on the Silk Road, and the most important grain producer in Turkey.
Konya is one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in Turkey and one of the first human settlements in the world, just as it is demonstrated by the archaeological studies carried on the surrounding places of the city, and famous for its religious character, known as the home of the Whirling Dervishes for 800 years. Also has some importance for Christians because St. Paul Antiochia lived in Konya for few time.
This city has much of history and cultural heritage to show to its visitors, from ancient remains to exquisite mosques and museums where is possible to appreciate the splendid building dating from the Seljuk period. The most remarkable spot in the city is the Mausoleum of Jamal ad-Din Rumi or known as Melvana, where are dance performances for tourist. | Edit by: Vincent | |
