Drum Tower situated at the heart of the old city, was constructed in 1493, the sixth year of Emperor Hongzhi's reign in the Ming Dynasty, with a brick platform in the lower part and gates in four directions leading to four streets of the city. The names of the gates carved in stone are “Zhendong”, “Anxi”, “dingnan”, and “Gongbei”. Because the tower obstructed traffic, it was demolished in 1952. Now it is one of the “three treasures” in Tianjin. |
