the Altar of Chinese Chronology

    The Altar of Chinese Chronology is located near the Military Museum and occupies an area of 45,000 square meters.
    Entering from the southern entrance, traveler will see a round square with a diameter of 25 meters, subsiding about one meter bellow the surrounding ground. In the center of the square is a rectangular Holy Fire Platform with a spurting holy fire in its center, the symbolic fire of Chinese civilization and creation that will be lasting forever and passed from one generation to another. The limpid streams on the two sides of the square indicate the two mother-rivers of the Chinese nation, namely the yangtze River and the Yellow River. Northwards along the square extends a path over 200 meters long and 15 meters wide. In the middle of the path is a three-meter-wide bronze relievo, on which are engraved the chronological records of events for the Chinese people's 5,000-year history from 3,000 B. C to 2,000 A. D. The main body of the altar is composed of a still winding corridor and a revolving platform, where a 45-meter-long indicator points to the blue vault, making one round every day. Here traveler can see the large outdoor stage, the exhibition hall for statues of Chinese celebrities in all times, and the exhibition wall of 56 nationalities in China, in addition to the projection hall with the broadest screen in the world.
