Emerald Island

    With the reputation as “a desert to the east of Beijing”, Emerald Island is located in Qilihai south of Golden Surrounded by seawater on three sides and with golden sandy hills behind. Many trees grow thick on the island and the sun cannot penetrate on the sea. One-third of the species of birds in China perch on this island. The birds under state protection reach as many as 68 species. Here traveler can sea black mouthed seagulls, one of the rate birds in the world, and branchiostomids which have been called “living fossil” by systematic zoologists.
