The Longevity Hall

A key national temple in China, which was first named Zhaixing Nunnery, also named Wannian Buddha Hall, situated on Motian Ridge, Dongya. It was first constructed in the Ming Dynasty. During that time, Haiyu monk came from Mountain Wutai to cultivate himself, he lived only on Huangjing, a kind of wild plant. He punctured his tongue to get blood mixed gold powder with which he used as ink to copy sutra, which later on was called Blood Sutra. In 1623, Haiyu died at the age of 110, his body stayed fresh, so it was painted and enshrined. In 1630, he was conferred Yingshen Bodhisattva. The board over the tower gate was inscribed “kindness is precious”, in the same year, his disciple Huiguang took charge of setting an altar and receiving new monks. Then it was renamed The Longevity Hall. During Daoguang period, Qing Dynasty, it was expanded to the chief monastery. In 1917, it was incribed by Li Yuanhong “Granted Baisui palace, protecting temple”. Later rised and declined, the construction works are voluntary architecture style of the Qing Dynasty. From north to south, all are gallop-open architecture style which is wonderful artical excelling nature.
